Timmins suspect charged with starting fire in abandoned building

A 27-year-old Timmins resident has been charged in connection with a fire in an abandoned building in the south end of the city on Tuesday.

The Timmins Police Service said that the suspect gained entry into an abandoned residence and started a fire that grew out of control.

“Timmins Fire Department personnel attended the scene to extinguish the flames,” police said in a news release Wednesday.

“The suspect fled the scene on foot and made his way to another local business where he began to cause a disturbance.”

he suspect was arrested at the business and charged with arson, causing a disturbance, resisting arrest and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.

The accused remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for Wednesday at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins.
