Those explosion noises you might have heard this morning were caused by a structure fire, says North Grenville Fire Chief John Okum.
The incident happened at a commercial garage on Nursery Road. Okum says firefighters arrived on the scene at 4:58 AM, but the blaze began several hours earlier before being reported by a passerby.
“Officials arrived on scene to find a fully involved garage on fire, with flames through the roof and the building partially collapsed,” he explains.
As the fire burned, several residents took to social media saying they heard an explosion, which Okum also has an explanation for.
“During the fire, there were sounds of some explosions, which were containers venting inside the building as a result of the fire,” he says.
The blaze has since been extinguished, and firefighters are still on the scene, investigating the cause.
