York police have released a shocking video showing two suspects blatantly pouring flammable liquid on a tow truck in Richmond Hill before igniting it while the driver is still inside.

Police say they were called to the Leslie Centre shopping plaza in the area of Major Mackenzie Drive East and Leslie Street around 5 a.m. on Thursday for reports of a tow truck on fire.

Officers arrived to find a truck fully engulfed in flames. The fire quickly spread and reportedly caused damage to a nearby business before Richmond Hill Fire were able to put it out.

Video posted by York police shows two suspects arrive at the plaza in a blue, four-door sedan. They get out and run over to a pair of parked white trucks, dousing them in a flammable liquid.

The pair then throw something to ignite the fire and run back to their vehicle, fleeing the scene.

The driver of the burning truck was still inside when it went up in flames, and they can be seen in the video getting out of the vehicle.

The second truck was able to move away before it also caught on fire.

Investigators are asking the public for help and anyone with information about this arson investigation is asked to contact police at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7241.
