Overnight garage fire causes $100K in damage

CTV News

Crews responded to a garage fire at a home in Barrie’s south end late Friday night, which caused an estimated $100,000 in damage.

According to Barrie’s fire chief, the call came in at around 11:30 p.m. for a fire in the detached garage of the Brennan Avenue home.

A total of six trucks and 25 firefighters reportedly responded to the scene, extinguishing the fire quickly but taking a couple of hours to put out the last of the hotspots.

No injuries were reported in the incident. While the fire was contained to the garage, Barrie’s fire chief confirmed it was written off because of the damage, and that nearby homes may have sustained thermal damage to their exteriors.

The incident is not deemed suspicious and the investigation remains ongoing.
