A residential fire in the Town of Renfrew Monday is being investigated as suspicious by the Renfrew detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
The Renfrew Fire Department was dispatched to Bonnechere Street North at approximately 2 a.m. for a report of smoke coming from a four-unit dwelling.
Renfrew OPP officers also arrived at the scene, along with emergency medical services.
There were no injuries reported. No occupants were home at the time of the incident, said fire chief Michael Guest.
“The building had undergone numerous renovations over time and featured multiple roof layers and roof lines, which made firefighting operations particularly challenging,” said Guest.
The fire was brought under control after nine hours at about 11 a.m. It resulted in severe structural damage to the integrity of the building as well as smoke and water damage.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation and the OPP remains on scene with provincial fire investigators.
