Kawartha Lakes Fire and Rescue is on the scene of a residential fire in Lindsay this morning.

Fire Chief Terry Jones told Kawartha 411 News the fire has been deemed suspicious and the Kawartha Lakes Police Service is investigating. The Ontario Fire Marshal has also been called in to investigate.

Two homes were impacted with one fully involved when fire crews arrived on site on Russell Street East in Lindsay at approximately 2am. Jones says the second home had approximately $50,000 in damages.

Two people in the basement managed to escape the fire uninjured due to working smoke alarms. Chief Jones says this is a reminder to residents to ensure they have working alarms and to check them regularly.
