A Tuesday afternoon fire has temporarily closed a Main Street business in Rockwood.
In a phone interview, Rockwood Fire Chief Jim Petrik said that the Guelph/Eramosa Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Main Street in Rockwood at around 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday that impacted a couple of businesses and their upstairs apartments.
While there were no injuries, Petrik said when they arrived, there was pretty heavy smoke and flames coming from the building, and it's anticipated that there's approximately $200,000 in damages.
The cause remains under investigation.
"The firefighters did an amazing job stopping the fire, putting it out quite quickly with a combination of interior fire attacks as well as using our aerial truck," said Petrik. "We thought the firefighters were able to put the fire out quite quickly and minimize the spread of damage."
Posting to their Facebook story Tuesday evening, Lemongrass Day Spa, which shares a space with the Eramosa River Cafe at 185 Main St S., said they are temporarily closed and will be without their spa until further notice.
"As you all know, we've had quite the day. All are safe in the building," said the post. "A huge thank you to the community for all of your thoughts and kind words at this time."
