A veil of smoke shrouded midtown Prescott Tuesday morning, as a house fire broke out on James Street East, just a few doors down from St. Lawrence Academy.
At about 10 a.m., the Prescott Fire Department was called, and when they arrived, the structure was fully involved, fire officials said.
“Upon arrival, flames were coming out of the one residence,” says Captain Brent Norton of the Prescott Fire Department.
“Police evacuated people in all the other adjoining units.”
According to Norton, all residents of the home and the adjoining units were evacuated safely.
Fire crews were still working on extinguishing hot spots into the afternoon, as smoke was still seen billowing out of the structure hours after the blaze began.
The Prescott Fire Department had three trucks on the scene, and the Augusta Fire Department helped in the response by sending two trucks and crews.
There is no official cause of the fire or damage estimate yet as the investigation is ongoing.
