A fire that took more than seven hours to completely extinguish early Saturday morning has all but levelled a Tavistock home.

East Zorra-Tavistock Township fire Chief Scott Alexander, who was at the property Monday evaluating the extent of the damage, said the department received the call shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday. Fire crews didn’t leave the Hope Street blaze until around 8:30 a.m.

Alexander said no one was injured in the fire, but would not comment on cause or the extent of the damage.

A guard with esm Security, hired by the homeowners’ insurance company, was also on scene Monday and referred to the house as “a write-off.”

From the street, extensive damage could be seen inside the home while areas where the fire burned through the exterior wall could be seen along the upper level.
