The Guelph/Eramosa Fire Department and the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council gathered with Enbridge Gas on Oct. 17 to announce they are working together to improve home safety and bring fire and carbon monoxide-related deaths down to zero.
In attendance was Fire Chief Jim Petrik, Enbridge southeast region operations manager Blair Hiseler and executive director of the Fire Marshal’s Public Safety Council Jamie Kovacs, as well as other fire department representatives.
The Guelph/Eramosa Fire Department has received 210 combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms through Safe Community Project Zero. The public education campaign will provide more than 10,000 alarms to residents in 50 municipalities across Ontario.
This year, Enbridge will spend $315,000 on the project.
Fire officials at the event added many people do not know that smoke alarms expire – so be sure to replace them as needed.
