Fire sends two to hospital
A man and woman were rushed to Trenton Memorial Hospital after being rescued from a house fire Sunday night in Quinte West.
Firefighters were called out just after 7 o’clock to 801 Old Highway 2 near Whites Road in Bayside.
One of the victims, an elderly man, was transferred to Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto by Ornge air ambulance with third degree burns.
Quinte West Fire Chief John Whalen says firefighters managed to save a cat that was in the home’s basement.
“It looks like the fire originated in the area of the woodstove but we’re just not sure how the gentleman was burned so badly.”
The Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal is aiding in the investigation.
Personnel from Bayside and Batawa fire halls responded, as well as OPP, Hastings Quinte Paramedic Services, Enbridge Gas, and Hydro One.
