Fire marshal's office investigates blaze at Bell City Motel

The Ontario Fire Marshal’s office has been called in to help investigate a Friday afternoon fire at the Bell City Motel at 901 Colborne St. E.

The fire broke out in a room at the motel after 1:30 pm Friday.

Two people, including a Brantford firefighter, were taken to Brantford General Hospital.

The firefighter suffered minor injuries and was treated and released.

The status of the other person was not immediately available.

But no one was in the room when firefighters arrived, said Brantford deputy fire chief Todd Binkley.

“It (the room) was fully involved when we arrived and the fire had spread to the attic of the motel,” Binkley said. “But our firefighters were able to bring it under control quickly and prevent it from spreading.”

The fire broke out in a room close to Clara Crescent, off Colborne, behind the Shanghai Restaurant.

Brantford police and Brant-Brantford paramedics also responded.

Eastbound traffic on Colborne was restricted to one lane at Clara for a time.
