Investigators are searching for the cause of a fire in a single-family home near Ottawa’s Mooney’s Bay Park.
The Ottawa Fire Services says the communications division received multiple 9-1-1 calls around 4:15 a.m. Tuesday, reporting a loud bang and a house fire on Flannery Drive.
Firefighters arrived on the scene four minutes after being dispatched to the call and confirmed the home was fully engulfed in smoke and flames. The flames had spread to the roof of a neighbouring home.
Ottawa Fire Services spokesperson Nick DeFazio said a second alarm was declared to bring additional firefighters and resources to the scene.
“Crews advanced multiple hose lines toward both homes and entered the residence where the fire originated,” DeFazio said.
“At approximately 4:40 a.m., a partial structural collapse created dangerous conditions, and all firefighters were ordered to evacuate the home. At that time, flames were showing through the roof.
Firefighters were able to re-enter the search once conditions improved and completed a “thorough search” for any occupants.
No one was found inside the home. DeFazio said firefighters also searched the neighbouring home and confirmed no one was inside.
The fire was declared under control at approximately 5:10 a.m.
An Ottawa Paramedic Service spokesperson said one person was assessed at the scene for a minor injury but did not require transport to hospital.
An Ottawa Fire Services investigator and an investigator with the Office of the Fire Marshal will be on scene to investigate the fire.
