No people or animals were injured in a Sunday morning fire which gutted a Wainfleet barn.
Wainfleet fire Chief Morgan Alcock said the fire that gutted a barn on Lakeshore Road is not believed to be suspicious.
Crews were called to the blaze at 9:45 a.m. and were assisted by Haldimand County Fire and Port Colborne Fire and Emergency Services in battling the flames that had spread to a nearby structure.
Alcock said there were cattle in the barn when the fire broke out and the property owner told fire officials all animals had been safely removed before firefighters arrived.
Alcock said the fire was brought under control within an hour and was extinguished 2 p.m.
As a precaution, Alcock said the property owner was checked out on site by Niagara Region Emergency Medical Services paramedics for potential smoke inhalation and released. No other injuries or exposures were reported.
A cause and damage estimate have not been determined.
