Bracebridge fire destroys home and two other structures

CTV News

With a plume of smoke seen for miles, a house fire in the area of Matthiasville Road in Bracebridge brought about 30 firefighters to battle the blaze.

Six fire trucks were called to the Tuesday evening fire from Bracebridge Fire Department Stations 1 and 2, with another four firefighters monitoring the scene Wednesday morning.

Officials say one person escaped with their animals after discovering the fire and called 911.

Fire Chief Kevin Plested said the home and at least two nearby structures are a complete loss and it’s not clear if the homeowner has insurance.

The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has been contacted. The damage estimate sits at around $1,000,000.

While the cause of the blaze hasn’t been determined, Plested said it does not appear to be suspicious.
