A body was found in a shed in Brampton, Ont., on Thursday after crews put out a fire that burned the structure, police say.

Peel Regional Police received reports about a shed on a fire on Aloma Crescent, near Avondale Boulevard and Bramalea Road, at about 3:45 p.m. Brampton Fire and Emergency Services and Peel Paramedic Services also responded.

Fire crews extinguished the fire quickly and found the body when searching the shed, Brampton Fire said. The fire was contained to the shed.

Const. Tyler Bell-Morena, spokesperson for the police, told reporters later on Thursday that there is nothing "overtly" to indicate foul play. He said police believe the victim was a male.

"We treat any unexplained death the same, as though it was suspicious, in hopes that the evidence uncovers the death was not," Bell-Morena said.

Ontario's Office of the Fire Marshal will attend the scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire, he added. Ontario's coroner will also attend, he said.

Residents in the area should expect a police presence for some time as the investigation continues.
