50 evacuated from stranded ‘amphibious’ tour boat after malfunction on Ottawa River

CTV News

Dozens of passengers had to be evacuated from a tour boat with wheels after the vessel broke down in the middle of the Ottawa River Sunday afternoon, according to Gatineau firefighters.

Gatineau fire says in a news release in French that crews received a call from the captain of the “Lady Dive” notifying them of the incident at approximately 4:30 p.m.

The “amphibious vessel,” which can drive on land and operate in water, broke down on the river near the Hull Marina, firefighters say.

About 50 passengers were onboard the tour boat and all had to be evacuated.

Two fire department boats and 14 firefighters had to be called in to help transport the vehicle back to the dock.

The evacuation took approximately 50 minutes, Gatineau fire says.

There were no injuries.
