One person is dead and multiple people were injured, including a Toronto firefighter, after a high-rise blaze early Sunday morning in North York.

Firefighters were reportedly alerted to the two-alarm blaze at an apartment building at 1420 Victoria Park Ave., south of Eglinton Ave., around 2 a.m. and found one occupant in a fully involved unit.

Toronto Fire said two other residents of the building and a firefighter were hospitalized with injuries, although fire Chief Jim Jessop later said on social media that the firefighter’s injuries were minor.

Reports said another person received serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while the other person’s injuries were minor. The two occupants were reportedly treated for smoke inhalation, CityNews reported.

“Thinking of the loved ones of the deceased and wishing the injured firefighter a speedy recovery,” Jessop said in an update on the social media site X. “Thank you to all responding crews for their work.”

Police and the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office were also investigating the blaze.
