Loyalist Township

Loyalist Township is pleased to announce the hiring of Kent Readman as the new Director of Emergency Services/Fire Chief. Readman will begin his new role with Loyalist Township on February 26, 2024, replacing the recently retired Director of Emergency Services/Fire Chief, Fred Stephenson.

Readman is joining Loyalist Township after serving as the Fire Chief for the Municipalities of Huron East and North Huron. With more than 20 years of dedicated emergency services experience, Readman has accrued a wealth of knowledge, experience, and education.

Readman has obtained extensive qualifications in areas including fire prevention, public information, and incident safety from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).  Kent is currently an adjunct instructor and evaluator for NFPA courses offered at training centres in Ontario.  In his past positions as Fire Chief in northwestern Ontario, Kent was involved in wildfire and flooding evacuations as a host community.  He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs.

"I am looking forward to joining the well-established team at Loyalist Township Emergency Services. I am thankful for this opportunity and excited to work with and help protect this community," Readman expressed.

Also, joining Readman on the Loyalist Township Emergency Services leadership team will be Mike Greenham, who will assume the role of Deputy Fire Chief beginning on February 12, 2024. Greenham has been a member of the Loyalist Township Emergency Services team for over 19 years, including most recently as the Assistant Deputy Fire Chief – Public Education & Special Events.  In this role, Mike has been instrumental in the development of emergency services community relations initiatives including school outreach programs. In addition to his emergency service experience, Mike brings a wealth of knowledge from his current management role and over 26 years of work experience with the Correctional Service of Canada.

“The Loyalist Township Emergency Services Department is full of highly dedicated and engaged professionals who I am honoured to have the opportunity to work with in my new role as Deputy Fire Chief.  Loyalist Township is an incredible, friendly place that I am proud to call my home, and I look forward to serving my community and enhancing the fire department with my experience and skills,” said Greenham.

“Loyalist is extremely happy to add Kent and Mike to our Emergency Services Department. They are both exceptionally qualified to lead our Emergency Services Department for many years to come,” stated Loyalist Township Mayor, Jim Hegadorn.
