Municipality of Central Elgin Announces New Fire Chief

Municipality of Central Elgin

The Municipality of Central Elgin is pleased to welcome Jeff VanRybroeck as the new Fire Chief, starting September 2.

Mr. VanRybroeck brings more than 25 years of fire and emergency services experience, including leadership roles as Fire Chief, Chief Training Officer, and Assistant Deputy Fire Marshal. He has been recognized for his commitment to firefighter safety, modern emergency management practices, and building strong partnerships within the community. His leadership style emphasises collaboration, innovation and preparedness.

An advocate for training and professional development, Mr. VanRybroeck holds a Bachelor of Applied Business in Emergency Services, a Certificate in Fire Service Executive Management, multiple leadership and management designations, and advanced National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA) certifications.

“We are pleased to welcome Jeff to this important role,” said Mayor Andrew Sloan. “His experience and leadership will be a great asset as we continue to strengthen fire and emergency services while prioritizing the health and well-being of our community.”

As Fire Chief, Mr. VanRybroeck will lead Central Elgin’s Fire Rescue and Beach Rescue teams, including more than 100 volunteer firefighters and 25 lifeguards. The municipality operates four fire stations and a Water Rescue Marine Program. These teams collaborate closely with Medavie EMS Elgin and the Ontario Provincial Police to keep the community safe.

Mr. VanRybroeck replaces Raymond Ormerod, who retired earlier this year.
