Salary: Pay band 7 – $29.80 to 34.59 (2024 rates) – Non-union/exempt, including a comprehensive benefit package and enrollment to OMERS pension plan.

Job Summary

The Township of Augusta is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Municipal Enforcement Officer to ensure compliance with municipal bylaws and regulations, promoting fire safety through inspections, education, and enforcement of fire codes and regulations. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with applicable standards, investigate fire hazards, provide exceptional customer service, investigate complaints and contribute to the safety of our community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate and respond to complaints related to municipal bylaws (e.g., property standards, noise, parking, animal control).
  • Conduct site visits and inspections to assess By-Law compliance.
  • Educate residents, businesses, and stakeholders about bylaw requirements.
  • Issue warnings, notices, and fines as necessary, ensuring proper documentation.
  • Collaborate with other departments, agencies, and law enforcement as required.
  • Prepare detailed reports on investigations and enforcement activities.
  • Attend court proceedings or hearings as required to provide evidence or testimony. Conduct inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial properties to ensure compliance with fire safety codes and regulations.
  • Identify fire hazards and recommend corrective actions to prevent fire risks.
  • Review construction and renovation plans for fire code compliance.
  • Investigate complaints related to fire safety and enforce applicable laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate with fire services, builders, and community members to provide fire safety education.
  • Document and report inspection findings and maintain accurate records.
  • Respond to emergencies and assist with fire investigations when necessary.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma
  • Post-secondary education in law enforcement, criminology, or a related field is preferred.
  • Certification in NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector I preferred.
  • Knowledge of Ontario Fire Code, municipal by-laws, standards, regulations and enforcement.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in report writing and use of inspection tools/software.
  • Possession of a current and valid minimum Standard First Aid Certificate Level C, CPR Certificate.
  • Possession of a valid Ontario Driver’s License Class “G” and a clean drivers abstract.
  • Must provide a current, clear Vulnerable Sector Check from an accredited Police Service.
