Former Saugeen Shores Fire Chief has Passed Away

Saugeen Shores | by Megan Johnson  Former Saugeen Shores Fire Chief Bruce Fenton has passed away at the age of 68 on March 14, 2019.

The husband and father spent 29 years firefighting within Saugeen Shores, having started in Saugeen Township as a Firefighter in 1980, then becoming the Fire Chief of the newly amalgamated Saugeen Shores Fire Department in 1999.  Beyond fighting fires, he was described as someone who made friends wherever he went and also helped run his family's dairy farm and worked up until last year as a valuable member of Port Elgin’s Carson’s Supply.

Fire Prevention Officer for the Town of Saugeen Shores Rob Atkinson says Fenton hired him in 2003 and knew him as a family friend.

“He was a great guy, honest, hardworking, always doing his best to get the job done”.

He said the fire department will miss Bruce and he will be remembered for his hardworking and caring nature.

A celebration of life for Bruce Fenton will be held at a later date.
