The Oakville Fire Department came to the aid of an 11-year-old boy who fell into a ravine on Wednesday.
At around 1:53 p.m., the boy and a friend were playing in the Bronte Road and North Service Road area on the west side of Bronte Creek, when the boy slid down a steep embankment and injured his back, said Oakville Deputy Fire Chief Dan Boyer.
While the friend went to get help, the boy, who had access to a phone, was able to call 911.
Boyer said the firefighters who arrived on the scene were able to walk down the embankment to the boy.
“When we did locate him, he was able to walk out with some assistance from us,” said Boyer.
The boy was removed from the ravine and reunited with his family.
