Garage destroyed in fire at Uxbridge home

An investigation continues after fire broke out in a residential home on North Street Friday afternoon..

Uxbridge firefighters responded to the blaze just before 2 p.m. on Friday, June 15, and arrived to find the home's garage fully engulfed. The blaze was mostly extinguished by 3 p.m. although crews remained on scene checking for hot spots.

"Occupants were home at the time but were already out safely when fire crews arrived," said Fire Chief Phil Alexander.

"We're still checking through the roof to make sure it's fully out. The bulk of the damage was confined to the garage but it did travel over around the front door area as well."

An investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the fire and the full extent of the damage.

Chief Alexander noted crews also had to be careful in the hot weather.

"We're also keeping an eye on our firefighters because it's very hot out," he explained. "In temperatures like this you need to be careful of dehydration."

He encouraged all residents to check their smoke alarms routinely.

"I'm guessing that's the reason they got out safely," he said of the home's occupants.
