Two people have died following a major fire at a mobile home in Quinte West Thursday afternoon.
Fire Chief John Whalen says the call came in shortly after 5:00 p.m.
” … multiple 911 calls to Bayview Estates (by 8 Wing Trenton off Highway 2) to one of the units here. When we pulled on scene, one of the mobile homes was fully involved. Very frantic scene with people screaming that people may be inside.”
Whalen says Enbridge Gas, Hydro One, OPP, and Hastings-Quinte Paramedics were also called.
“Our crews did their best to get inside and knock that fire down, as we call a fast attack. Then we had to withdraw because the flames were so bad.”
A 64-year-old male was airlifted to Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto for treatment, two children made it out safely, and the OPP have confirmed the death of the two others.
A one year old and a 66-year-old passed away in the blaze.
The Ontario Fire Marshal will be on-scene Friday morning.
