Town of Lincoln receives funding to enhance emergency preparedness

The Town of Lincoln is pleased to announce that it has been awarded $39,740 from the Province of Ontario’s Community Emergency Preparedness Grant (CEPG). This grant is part of a $5 million investment aimed at ensuring communities across the province have the resources and equipment needed to prepare for natural disasters and emergencies.

This funding will significantly enhance th<back to Headlinese Niagara West Emergency Management program in Lincoln through several key areas, fostering collaboration between neighbouring municipalities, the Regional Municipality of Niagara and the Province:

  1. Public Education: Production and distribution of Emergency Plan books to increase public awareness, preparedness and community resiliency. The books include information on how to be prepared for emergencies by making a plan, building an emergency kit and staying informed. The books will be mailed to every residential household in Lincoln by the end of August. 
  2. Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) Staff Training: Registration for staff to attend an emergency management conference, fostering networking and the sharing of best practices among professionals.
  3. EOC Communications: Enhancement of EOC communications with the purchase and installation of an auxiliary communication system, a smart TV, and a video conferencing solution. This includes recruitment and training of volunteers for equipment operation and the purchase of drone accessories to support the drone program in Lincoln.
  4. Health and Safety of Responders: Procurement of emergency cots and bedding kits for EOC staff and fire stations to ensure readiness for immediate and safe response during weather events.

"This grant is a significant step forward in enhancing our community's resilience,” said Town of Lincoln Mayor Sandra Easton. “The safety and preparedness of our residents is a top priority, and this funding helps equip our team with the necessary tools and training to respond effectively to local emergencies.”

Fire Chief Greg Hudson added, "The enhancements to our Emergency Operations Centre and the additional training for our staff are invaluable. These improvements ensure that our team is well-prepared to manage any situation, keeping our residents safe during emergencies."

“The Community Emergency Preparedness Grant is part of the government’s $110 million plan to strengthen emergency preparedness across Ontario. Targeted investments in communities like the Town of Lincoln will increase local resilience by providing needed resources and training,” said Trevor Jones, Associate Minister of Emergency Preparedness and Response. “By working together, we can keep our province safe, practiced and prepared.”
