PORT HOPE — Members of the fire department were celebrated for their years of service.

At a council meeting Nov. 5, C. Ryan Edgar, fire chief and director of fire and emergency services, joined council and Logan MacDonald — fire chief for a day winner — to give four firefighters long service awards.

“As we move forward as a department and as a municipality, I look forward to the great things that we all shall accomplish together and the accomplishments that have already been achieved,” said Edgar. “Tonight, it gives me great honour to bring forward a number of individuals to be recognized by council here tonight for their many contributions and years of service for our community."

Firefighters who received awards include Mike O’Brien for five years of service, William Vinge for 10 years of service, David Drummond for 20 years of service and Bill Read for 25 years of service.

Other members of the fire department also received awards and recognition, and fire inspector certifications.
