North Bay police retract scam warning about fire safety service

On Tuesday, the North Bay Police Service issued a correction to a public warning it sent last week warning about scam calls related to fire safety equipment.

It turns out that the calls weren't scams and the business making them is real.

The warning was sent Nov. 13, about calls people in North Bay were getting that "offered fire safety inspections of their homes and the installation of fire safety equipment."

"Some reports stated that the recipients of these calls believed that North Bay Fire and Emergency Services was involved in offering this service," police said Tuesday.

"North Bay Fire and Emergency Services is in no way associated with this business or with the calls."

Based on the initial information received, police warned the public that these were likely scam calls.

"Further investigation into this matter by the North Bay Police Service and the North Bay Fire and Emergency Service has clarified that these calls are being conducted by a licensed business that is legally permitted to operate within Ontario," police said.
