No injuries reported in low-rise building fire in ByWard Market

CTV News

The Ottawa Paramedic Service says no injuries were reported following a fire in a low-rise building fire in the ByWard Market Saturday morning.

Ottawa Fire Services says firefighters received multiple calls shortly after 8:30 a.m., reporting black smoke and flames visible from a two-storey building in the 100 block of Guigues Avenue between Parent and Dalhousie streets.

When crews arrived at the scene and saw the black smoke and flames, they declared a working fire, requesting additional resources.

They then started fighting the fire by advancing a hose line inside the structure until it was declared under control shortly after 9:30 a.m.

The fire was contained to the area of origin, as firefighters prevented it from spreading into the nearby structures that were at risk.

Firefighters then completed two searches of the building, and no occupants were found inside.

The residual smoke was ventilated out of the structure by high pressurized fans.

Victim Services was dispatched to the scene to help residents.

The investigation into what led to the fire is ongoing.
