Mississauga firefighters helped motorists on Highway 410 Sunday afternoon after five vehicles became stranded in high waters.

In an online post just before 8 p.m. on Aug. 18, the Mississauga fire department said its water rescue team was on scene in the northbound lanes of Highway 410 removing occupants from five vehicles.

After rescuing motorists, the team went to work clearing catch basins to help water slowly recede until Ministry of Transportation crews arrived, added the fire service.

Early Monday morning, Ontario Provincial Police in Mississauga said that the Highway 403 eastbound ramp to Highway 410 was closed for road repairs due to damage caused by flooding.

The length of the closure is unknown, say OPP.

As well, a stretch of the Highway 410 southbound lanes reopened around 3 a.m. on Aug. 19 after being closed at Courtneypark Drive in Mississauga on Sunday evening due to flooding. The ramp to Highway 407 was also closed, say OPP.
