The Eastern Ontario Firefighters’ Association Games takes place in Merrickville-Wolford Friday, June 13, and Saturday, June 14. Fire departments from all around Eastern Ontario come together for this prestigious yearly event for a weekend of fierce competition, friendship and community celebration.
The festivities begin Friday evening with a public concert held under the big tent at the Merrickville Fairgrounds. From 8 p.m. to midnight, guests can experience live country music performed by Country Traditionz. Everyone is invited to partake in this vibrant start to the weekend’s festivities.
On Saturday morning, the enthusiasm persists on Read Street, located next to the Merrickville Fire Department. Beginning at 9 a.m., both residents and visitors are invited to support their local firefighters as they engage in a series of skill-based contests, such as ladder climbs, hose relays and other challenges that highlight their proficiency and collaboration. The events are expected to wrap up around 5 p.m.
As night approaches, a grand parade with firefighters, fire trucks and marching bands will stroll through downtown Merrickville at 7 p.m. This lively event promises to entertain viewers of all ages.
The celebration concludes at the Merrickville Community Centre with a community dance featuring a live show by Greenhouse Revival. Guests can enjoy a variety of craft beers, including a unique brew crafted by local favourite Gather Brewery specifically for the EOFA Games. Tickets for the dance will be available at the door.
