Man identified in fatal fire

Thunder Bay Police identified Wednesday a 30-year-old man who died in a harrowing south-core townhouse fire.

Police said Kyle Malcolm Stoney died in the Trillium Way blaze, which broke out just after midnight Monday and sent a 23-year-old woman to hospital with critical injuries.

A 48-year-old city woman appeared in court Wednesday in connection to the fire on charges of criminal negligence causing death and criminal negligence causing bodily harm, city police said.

Police said they continue to investigate the fire while awaiting the results of an autopsy to be performed on Stoney. Stoney had been convicted of manslaughter in the 2014 beating death of Thunder Bay resident Christopher Adams.

The relationship between the accused woman, Stoney and the injured woman, if any, was not released Wednesday.
