Innisfil Fire Chief Jon Pegg leaving for provincial role

Innisfil Fire Chief Jon Pegg is abandoning his bunker gear in favour of a provincial recruitment.

Pegg has been hired as Ontario’s chief of emergency management.

The province announced the dedicated position in December 2017, to help ensure effective oversight and governance of emergency management across Ontario.

“I’ll be ensuring municipal compliance with the Emergency Management Act,” Pegg said. “It’s also about leading provincial emergency preparedness.”

Pegg will be responsible for co-ordinating emergencies such as tornadoes and natural disasters.

He starts the new position July 3.

Pegg was hired as Innisfil’s chief in April 2014, after previously serving as a deputy. He is also a certified emergency management co-ordinator.

Filling in the role as acting fire chief is Tom Raeburn.
