A large grass fire raged across an acre of land in Barrie, causing anxiety among locals who saw flames and heavy smoke in the distance.

On Sunday, just after 8:30 p.m., Barrie firefighters were called to the area of Bryne Drive and Caplan Avenue.

Fire officials say the blaze spread through approximately one acre of the land, only burning the grass and brush.

The cause of the fire still remains undetermined, according to Eric MacFadden, Deputy Fire Chief of Barrie.

Officials say the affected area was not left cordoned off.

No injuries were reported in the midst of this incident.
