North Bay Fire and Emergency Services is pointing to a wood stove as the likely cause behind a garage fire east of the city Wednesday morning.

A statement from deputy fire chief Greg Saunders says firefighters from stations 1 and 2 responded to the structure fire at 760 Highway 17 E.

“Upon arrival firefighters were forced to manage a significant fire that had developed in a large detached garage,” Saunders said. “Firefighters were able to successfully extinguish the fire very quickly and without incident.”

No one was injured in the fire, but Saunders says the loss of equipment and the amount of damage to the structure were significant.

Early indications suggest a wood stove was the likely cause.
