Firefighters rescue kayaker who fell into Ottawa River

CTV News

A kayaker has been rescued from the water after falling into the Ottawa River Saturday afternoon, Ottawa Fire Services says.

Firefighters say they received a call reporting a kayaker had fallen out of their kayak and was hanging onto it wearing a life jacket in the river in the 2700 block of Cassels Street.

When crews arrived at the scene, they found the kayaker floating east in the middle of the river.

That was when the Water Rescue Team members launched their boats and rescued him. He was rescued shortly before 2:30 p.m.

Paramedics say the man held onto his kayak for 15 minutes before he was rescued.

He was treated for mild hypothermia and taken to hospital in stable condition, according to paramedics.
