Firefighters responded to a blaze involving an electric vehicle in Mississauga Thursday morning.
Mississauga fire Platoon Chief Ryan Baird told INsauga.com that it happened in the area of Glen Erin Drive and Battleford Road.
The call came in at 6:08 a.m.
A Jeep electric vehicle caught fire while being driven, Baird said.
He said it “was not involved in a collision or anything.”
“Because it was an electric vehicle fire, there’s a high hazard and additional concerns with the lithium ion batteries,” Baird added.
As a result, a hazmat truck also responded.
Baird said Mississauga fire uses a third party to remove electric vehicles in a special manner. They were called in and the vehicle was taken away.
Peel Regional Police said they responded as well and added that the fire is not considered suspicious.
A video of the blaze was posted on Reddit.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
There’s no word on a cause.
