East Gwillimbury (EG) is pleased to announce that it was awarded $42,638 through the Ontario Community Emergency Preparedness Grant. This funding will enhance the Town’s emergency response capabilities by providing critical equipment and training to better serve the community during emergencies.
The funding will be used to acquire:
- Battery-powered chainsaws
- Scene lighting to support emergency response operations
- A wastewater pump to provide relief during flooding events
- A drone and related staff training to enhance emergency rescue efforts
“This investment will continue to strengthen our response to emergencies and keep our community safe,” said Mayor Virginia Hackson. “We are grateful to the province for this support and to our staff for their work in securing this funding.”
“By securing this grant from the Ontario government, we are securing the support and tools we need to help keep our community safe,” said Fire Chief Cory Mainprize. “We will continue to invest in emergency training and response operations and emergency preparedness for our community.”
This is the first time EG has received this grant which is part of the $110 million the Provincial government earmarked over three years in the 2023 Budget to strengthen emergency preparedness in Ontario.
