The owner of an east London property was fined $50,000 failing to comply with the fire code.

A fire prevention inspector went to 19 Marmora St. for a general inspection in April. Multiple fire code violations were found, leading to an order issued to the property owner to comply with the rules, the London fire department said.

Residents on Marmora Street, located just west of Hamilton Road and Rectory Street, have complained to city hall officials in the past about vacant houses on the street attracting drug-users and squatters to the area.

A followup visit to the property showed the owner, whose name wasn’t made public, hadn’t submitted proof of annual fire alarm testing, the department said.

“We want to remind London building owners of the importance in maintaining fire and life safety equipment and that fire code violations that put our community at risk will not be tolerated,” Fire Chief Lori Hamer said in a statement.
