Cochrane structure fire destroys former Legion Hall

The Cochrane Times-Post

A structure fire caused significant damage to the former Royal Canadian Legion Hall, on May 5.

The Cochrane Fire Department responded with 15 firefighters, two pumpers and one rehab unit to the blaze at 107 Aurora Ave.

Fire Chief Richard Vallee said the blaze was brought under control quickly, though crews later discovered it had extended into the building’s attic.

An excavator was brought in to help firefighters access and extinguish stubborn hot spots.

The building, which Vallee says has been vacant for more than 10 years, is expected to be demolished, due to the extent of the damage.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
