Course Hours: 20

Price:  $499.00 (No HST)

Course Description

This course is an introduction to alternative dispute resolution and will discuss the factors that both support and inhibit successful outcomes.  A critical analysis of functional and dysfunctional conflict will assist in a deeper understanding of the origin of conflict.  Through a deeper understanding of conflict identification and analysis, participants will gain an understanding of the different stages of workplace conflict and when management should step in to prevent, de-escalate and mitigate conflict. Assignments and a roleplay exercise will be utilized to provide hands-on training to enable participants to develop their own methods for improving their communication skills, for exploring opportunities that exist for settlement, and for utilizing skills to build better, more effective relationships and create mutually agreeable outcomes when conflict exists.

This course is part of the Humber College Fire Service Executive Management Certificate program, and counts as one (1) of the six (6) elective courses required towards the certificate.
