The City of Brampton has a new leader in the fire department.

Andy Glynn will take on the role of Interim Fire Chief of Brampton Fire and Emergency Services (BFES) starting on Aug. 25.

Glynn brings more than 35 years of leadership experience in municipal and provincial fire services.

He served 17 years as deputy fire chief with the Oakville Fire Department, overseeing emergency management, administration, training, fire prevention, and public education. He coordinated emergency response during the COVID-19 pandemic, led major capital projects, and provided strategic oversight on emergency planning for high-profile events.

Glynn also held senior positions with the Office of the Fire Marshal.

It was last year that Glynn announced his retirement from firefighting, but says he is honoured to serve in Brampton.

“I look forward to working alongside the dedicated professionals of Brampton Fire and Emergency Services to maintain strong emergency response and advance key initiatives that enhance public safety,” said Glynn. “Together, we will continue to build on the department’s solid foundation of service to the community.”

His contributions to the fire service profession have been recognized through awards such as the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs (OAFC) Mark Diotte Leadership Award.

“Andy Glynn brings a wealth of expertise and a strong track record of leadership across fire services in Ontario. His focus on team development, emergency management, and strategic planning will provide stability and direction for Brampton Fire and Emergency Services. I look forward to working with him as we continue to build capacity and strengthen service delivery for residents,” said Bill Boyes, Commissioner, Community Services, City of Brampton, who himself once served as fire chief.

Brampton has been without a fire chief since June, when Nick Ruller left to take the position of chief administrative officer of Niagara-on-the-Lake.
