Former Fire Chief Rheaume Chaput headed to Kingston
Rheaume Chaput, currently the fire chief of Belleville, will assume the role of chief, fire and rescue services, for Kingston, effective Jan. 7, 2013, the city announced Wednesday morning.
The City of Kingston didn’t have to look too far to find its next fire chief.
Pembroke native Rhéaume Chaput, currently the fire chief of Belleville, will assume the role of Chief, Fire and Rescue Services for Kingston, effective Jan. 7, 2013, the city announced Wednesday morning.
Chaput replaces Harold Tulk, who is set to retire at year’s end.
Chaput comes to Kingston with more than 25 years of experience in fire services. He began his career as a firefighter in Pembroke and became that city’s fire chief in 2006.
Chaput was hired into his current position, Director of Fire and Emergency Services and Fire Chief for the City of Belleville, in 2008.
He is well versed in the management of the full scope of fire operations including strategic plan development to address current and future needs, budget and business administration, emergency management and response, fire prevention and education and risk management.
As Belleville fire chief, Chaput has developed a Master Fire Plan as well as restructured and reorganized fire service delivery.
He was awarded “Fire Chief of the Year” by the Ontario Municipal Fire Prevention Officers Association in 2009.
In addition to his role as Belleville’s fire chief he also acts as the designated Community Emergency Management Co-ordinator. He is also the Fire Coordinator for the County of Hastings with direct incident response for major events involving multi-jurisdictional fire services.
Chaput is bilingual and has a Masters degree in Disaster Emergency Management and a Bachelors of Applied Business, Emergency Services.
He is a member of the Ontario Fire Marshall Public Safety Council.
