Espanola residence fire considered ‘suspicious’

A fire at an Espanola residence in the wee hours of Wednesday is being treated as a potential arson.

Officers with the Manitoulin-Espanola detachment of the OPP responded to the blaze on Queensway Street shortly after 12:30 a.m., along with members of the Espanola Fire Department, according to a release.

An exact cause of the fire remains to be determined, pending the completion of an investigation by the Ontario Fire Marshal, but the OPP said the incident is “considered suspicious.”

There were no injuries and the investigation is continuing.
