A body has been located following a house fire that happened in Bancroft, Ont. Tuesday evening, according to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
The owner of the house remains unaccounted for, but the OPP says investigators will not speculate on the identity of the remains.
“A postmortem examination will be required in order to confirm the identity of the individual,” the OPP said.
Emergency crews responded to a fire at a home on Meadow Court in Bancroft shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday.
“The house was fully engulfed in flames when emergency responders arrived on scene,” the OPP said.
Police say the Bancroft OPP Crime Unit, the OPP Forensic Identification Unit, the Office of the Fire Marshal and the Bancroft Fire Department are investigating the fire.
