Preparedness for Wildland Fires - April 4 - 11:00am to 12:00pm 

For 1 hour we will cover an Overview of Wildland Fire Management in Ontario, covering the Forest Fire Prevention Act and the use of a RFZ within it, speaking to Wildland Fire Response and Operations, Wildland Fire Training for partnering agencies, Wildland Fire effects, factors of how Wildland Fires become problematic for suppression strategies and tactics, Wildland fire vs. human values, and how to increase Wildland Fire resiliency for those human values, learning to live with fire on the landscape – and helping community emergency management leaders become better prepared for future Wildland Fire occurrences.

Speaker: Ken Cox, Fire Advisor

Ken Cox is the Southern Region Fire Advisor for the Aviation Forest Fire and Emergency Services Branch of Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry of which he has been an Wildland Firefighter within for 16 fire seasons since 2008. Ken has been in his current role as an Provincial Advisor for the last 1.5 years of this service additionally Ken is also a Captain at Algonquin Highlands Fire Services for his local volunteer Fire Department.  In his tenures he has had the privilege to work on many assignments across Canada and obtain many experiences and lessons from a diverse array of leadership in emergency situations that he applies to his supervisory and advisory roles today.  Ken’s current portfolio as an Provincial Advisor entails Wildland Fire Mitigation education and support to communities in preparations for Wildland Fire occurrences, among educating people on many other Wildland Fire topics; Ken is also busy managing Wildland Fire incidents during the fire season filling a number of response functions on incidents.
