1939 - 2024

With heavy hearts, we sadly announce the passing of Thomas Edward Johnson on Thursday, February 29th 2024 in his 85th year with loving family by his side. Remembered and loved by his spouse Hazel of 67 years.  Cherished father to Lorna (Mike) O'Brien, Jim (Pauline) Johnson and Doug (Teri) Johnson. Proud grandad to Matthew (Adriana) O'Brien, Michelle (Joash) Jarvis, Clare, Frances, Arlo (Alex Rankin) and Olivia Johnson. Great grandad to Austin and Juliet O'Brien and Jaice and Jazlyn Jarvis. Uncle Tom to 10 nieces and nephews.  

Tom retired as the Chief of the St. Catharines Fire Department after 39 years of service. He was a member of the R.C.S.C.C. "Renown" where he held all staff positions including Commanding Officer from 1964 to 1967. Tom was a graduate of St. Catharines Collegiate. He was a member of the Adanac Lodge and Shriners.  

He enjoyed travelling, playing golf and the odd visit to the casino. Tom enjoyed family gatherings and attending events involving his grandkids and great grandkids. He had a great sense of humour. We are proud of all his accomplishments, his support and never-ending love.

The family would like to thank all the staff at Hospice Niagara for their exemplary care and compassion.

In keeping with the family’s wishes, funeral arrangements have been entrusted with the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines. Cremation has taken place and the family welcomes family and friends for a time of gathering in the funeral home on Saturday, April 6th 2024 from 1:00 – 3:00pm followed by a funeral service in the ceremony room at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Hospice Niagara and/or to The Humane Society of Greater Niagara Animal Clinic.
